TOOL STEELS
Cold work steels
For the manufacture of tools with surface temperatures not exceeding 200°C. These steels have been designed to provide the best possible properties for such applications: high hardness, good ductility, high wear resistance, minimal dimensional changes during heat treatment, and good machinability. Suitable for the manufacture of blanking punches, blades, drawing dies, thread-rolling tools, hobs and much more.
Die casting, forging and extrusion: when temperatures rise, tool steels must offer high toughness and exceptional cleanliness. The specific properties of these hot work steels are specially developed for high-temperature applications. As steel cleanliness is essential to ensure long tool life, every effort is made to minimize the content of non-metallic inclusions.
High-speed steels are a first-choice solution for the production of drills, milling cutters, broaches and other cold-working tools. They offer the required properties of high wear resistance, hot wear resistance and toughness, allowing the cutting edge to retain its performance over time. For example, the ultra-clean “Microclean” steel range, produced by powder metallurgy, is one of Böhler’s many specialties and delivers exceptional performance. For our customers, this means guaranteed long service life, low maintenance costs and a repeatable manufacturing process.
